2. OpenAI — the fastest-growing

OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering org went from zero to global in under two years and now lists roles across SF, NYC, Seattle, London, Dublin, Paris, Munich, Madrid, Stockholm, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and the UAE. Titles: Forward Deployed Engineer, Forward Deployed Software Engineer, Platform Engineer (FDE), Technical Deployment Lead, plus FDE management roles. Comp: $280K–$550K TC — the top of the market, with advertised base ranges like $185K–$325K plus significant equity.

What they look for: strong production engineering (Python/TypeScript), LLM fluency (evals, RAG, agents), and executive-grade communication. The loop is hard; experience shipping AI features to real users matters more than research credentials.

3. Anthropic

Anthropic brands much of its forward-deployed work as Applied AI (Applied AI Architect, Solutions Architect, Applied AI Engineering). Comp: $280K–$450K TC. They weight judgment and communication unusually heavily — expect scenario interviews about steering an enterprise's first Claude deployment. If you're targeting Anthropic, search their roles under "Applied AI" rather than "FDE".

4. Databricks

Databricks hires FDEs (including "AI Engineer – FDE" hybrids) into its field engineering org. Comp: $200K–$400K TC. Data engineering depth — Spark, lakehouse patterns, pipelines at scale — is the differentiator here.

5. Scale AI

Scale's deployment engineers build custom GenAI applications for enterprise and government on the Scale platform. Comp: $180K–$350K TC. Strong fit for engineers who like fast, scrappy, customer-embedded work.

6. Cohere

Cohere embeds engineers with enterprises running private/secure model deployments. Comp: $160K–$300K TC, Toronto and SF hubs — one of the stronger Canadian options.

7. Salesforce

Salesforce hires Forward Deployed Engineers to land Agentforce inside strategic accounts. Comp: $180K–$350K TC. More process, more stakeholders, better work-life balance than the startups.

8. Google Cloud

Google Cloud FDEs drive Gemini/Vertex deployments with named accounts. Comp: $200K–$400K TC. The loop is Google's standard bar plus customer-facing rounds.
