Implementation Engineer is the FDE-adjacent title used by Stripe and much of enterprise SaaS — engineers who integrate the platform with the customer’s systems and carry the technical relationship through go-live. The role predates the FDE label and remains one of the most common entry points into forward-deployed work: the skill set transfers directly, and many FDEs at AI companies started as implementation engineers.
